
The Benefits of Investing in US Shares
With the ASX representing just a small fraction of all investment opportunities across the world, we take a look at some of the benefits associated with investing in US shares.
Ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays, please take note of the change in trading times for the ASX, US stock market, as well as SelfWealth support hours over this period.
The cut-off time for receiving bank withdrawal requests on Thursday, 24 December and Thursday, 31 December will remain at 2pm Sydney-time as per usual. Requests made after this cut-off time will be processed the next business day (i.e. where there is no public holiday). Account deposits will be processed as per usual on these dates.
No bank withdrawal requests will be processed on Friday, 25 December 2020, Monday, 28 December 2020, and Friday, 1 January 2021.
Thursday 24th December – 10:00 am to 2:10 pm* (Sydney time)
Friday 25th December – Market closed (Christmas)
Monday 28th December – Market closed (Boxing Day – additional day)
Tuesday 29th December – Normal day of trading
Wednesday 30th December – Normal day of trading
Thursday 31st December – 10:00 am to 2:10 pm* (Sydney time)
Friday 1st January – Market closed (New Year’s Day)
Monday 4th January – Market resumes normal trading
US markets will observe US public holidays. This means the US stock market will be closed only on Friday, 25th December, 2020 and Friday, 1st January, 2021, US time. On Thursday, 24th December, 2020, the market will close early at 1:00 pm (US) Eastern Time.
Thursday 24th December 2020 – 10:00 am to 2:30 pm (Sydney time)
Friday 25th December – Closed
Monday 28th December – Closed
Tuesday 29th December – Normal Hours
Wednesday 30th December – Normal Hours
Thursday 31st December – 10:00 am to 2:30 pm (Sydney time)
Friday 1st January 2021 – Closed
Monday 4th January – Normal Hours
Support for US trading will follow US public holidays, as outlined above, including during US trading hours following the additional public holiday for Boxing Day in Australia.
SelfWealth members should also be aware of the effect these changes may have on ASX trading settlement dates over the Christmas and New Year holiday season. Please refer to the below calendars, which show the relevant T+2 settlement dates.
As an example, if an ASX trade is executed on Thursday, 24th December, settlement will take place on Wednesday, 30th December.
